“Thinking globally and acting locally” by Fernanda Giannasi

We had a wonderful TV News (21-22 horas) http://www.tvcultura.com.br/jornal-da-cultura/ where I was again one of the stage with an Economy, Philosophy and Ethics Professors Unicamp

I was in the whole Jornal da Cultura last night (December, 10th), but the asbestos is introduced just in the beginning as a call. The whole report is in the second part (segundo bloco) is on the right part has a small menu. 

The central debate is: the TV followed me in the inspection I did on 9/12/2010 in Leme (250 km far from Sao Paulo) which is a region where we have 2 asbestos-cement plants (one of them is the biggest national group).  Continue reading

UK: Canada House Trafalgar Square Protest was a success!

UK: Canada House Trafalgar Square Protest was a success!  The UK has the highest incidence of mesothelioma world-wide, and some of the many protesters’ whose loved ones died from mesothelioma ask how many more deaths are needed to stop this madness. For those of us outside of the London area, we thank you for leading this crusade on behalf the global community in mutual agreement that Canada must stop mining and exporting asbestos to Asia.       

Thanks to International Ban Asbestos Secretariat (IBAS) and the Asbestos Victims’ Support Groups Forum  for bringing together a coalition of forces for the London protest and for their excellent press release: “Blood in the Canadian Snow”.  Our sincere thanks to Asbestos Victims’ Support Groups Forum Members for supporting the joint letter (40 organizations from 17 countries)

CANADA, STOP EXPORTING CHRYSOTILE ASBESTOS TO ASIA!

The Quebec government in Canada is preparing to give a loan guarantee of $58 million to rescue the asbestos industry and allow the opening of the new Jeffrey underground mine. Jeffrey Mine plans to export 200,000 tons of asbestos a year from the new underground mine to developing countries for the next 25 to 50 years.  Continue reading

Hundreds of Asbestos Victims Worldwide Make Urgent Request to Canadian Government   Washington, DC … December 8, 2010 — The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) today commended the “Voices on the Wall”Facebook effort and Asbestos Victims’ Organizations’ global letter campaign. This campaign harnesses the voices of more than 1,400 Facebook messages from concerned individuals from across the globe requesting that the Canadian government say “No” to shut down the Jeffrey Mine.
